A happy place

This has absolutely nothing to do with Crawlspace, but I wanted to put in a few good words for Aris' Disc Shop in Grand Rapids. It's located in the Celebration Cinema complex off of East Beltline. Aris transfers vinyl to CD, which is not all that unusual, but he does a magnificent job, which is rather unusual. I have a sizable collection of great albums and 12" dance singles from the 1970s and 1980s, many of which will never be reissued on CD (at least not in this country).
Really, I was a big fan of such 1980s acts as The Associates, The Higsons, Helen Terry, Working Week, Toto Coelo, Fashion, The Woodentops, The Adult Net, Eighth Wonder and many others that you won't find anywhere on the shelves at your neighborhood Best Buy.
Yes, I still have a turntable, but that doesn't help me if I want to listen to them in my car or on my Ipod. So I have taken many of my trasures to Aris' place and he has converted them to CD, taking amazing care to clean up the sound and remove those little pops and clicks that were always the hallmark of frequently played albums. The results are sensational and the prices are extremely reasonable, considering the quality. Anyhow, if you're like me and you have a large library of vinyl that you rarely dust off any more, you owe it to yourself to pay the store a visit. Plus, while you're up there, you can catch something on the IMAX screen at Celebration while you're at it.
By the way, some of the songs I've had transferred have turned up in the music programs you hear before, during and after Crawlspace shows. So this does turn out to have something to do with Crawlspace after all -- ha!
